Huntington-Ingalls will get $936M contract for an additional destroyer
PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) – A Mississippi shipyard has a $936 million Navy contract modification to construct one other destroyer geared up to launch guided missiles. This comes along with a $5.1 billion contract signed in 2018 for Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula to construct six Arleigh Burke-class destroyers.
The contract and Monday’s modification are for Flight III of the design, which the Navy says incorporates an air and missile protection radar system significantly better than these in earlier fashions.
The Pentagon record of protection contracts signed Monday notes that the contract modification contains the opportunity of almost $11.7 million extra in engineering change proposals, design budgeting necessities and post-delivery availabilities.
The shipyard is a division of Huntington-Ingalls Industries Inc., based mostly in Newport Information, Virginia.
